Curious about how to create a focal point in your home? Read below for EVOLVE’s styling tips on making a space feel memorable and inviting

What Is A Focal Point?

In interior design and styling, a focal point is the centerpiece that captures attention, sets the tone, and leaves a lasting impression. The focal point is typically the first thing buyers notice when entering a room, and often, it is the detail they will remember long after their visit.

A home’s focal point is often the spark that ignites an emotional connection for potential buyers, allowing them to envision themselves and their family living there, whether it be an ornate fireplace or a stunning waterfront view.

If A Focal Point Is A View

When a view is a focal point, our stylists like to keep the room neutral and calm but also add accessories or furniture pieces that enhance the viewpoint. For example, if a property is surrounded by ocean views, our stylists like to use blue hues throughout the home including armchairs or hand-blown glass vases to complement the focal point.

If A Focal Point Is An Architectural Element

A lot of properties that EVOLVE style have architectural elements, whether they are high ceilings, marble walls or custom chandeliers.  These standout features are in high demand, serving as a natural focal point for our team to design around. The goal is to accentuate these elements and draw potential buyers into the room, creating a welcoming atmosphere. At the same time, the aim is to maintain a neutral design to ensure the space feels balanced and not overwhelming.

If A Room Has No Focal Point

When a stylist wants to create a focal point for a room, they use pieces that would capture the buyer’s eye immediately. This can include a jaw-dropping art work. The artwork should seamlessly integrate with the overall design of the home.  A large plant or collection of plants also gives room life, providing a living statement that elevates any space to make it feel more like a home.
